The Problem of Self

In determing the way one ought to live, one must look entirely outside of oneself. That is, one must view the problem not based on benefits and rewards, but on the percieved truth. This advice holds most pertinent when considering the God dilemma- that is, whether or not there is a God. I am often attracted to atheism due to the hedonism which it offers. However, I can never accept that there is no God on grounds of telos- and I see no telos in pleasure.

The Pleasure in Ugliness

There is a certain pleasure in ugliness. The example coming most quickly to mind is pornography, but all sin would fall into this category. The most terrible dilemma I face is that I hate the ugliness but love the pleasure of the body. Logically, it would be easy to say that the body must take second place- but the flesh is not logical. As in Romans seven, "That which I do not want to do, I do."
